The expansion of the companies in this modern industrial age has enhanced the search for more advanced systems for the transportation of products and manufactured goods. Green Logistics originates from the essential energy saving phrase, which aims to conserve the loss of unnecessary energy usages. The freight movement is plotted more precisely, which effectively cuts down the failure in energy consumption, and thus making the process environmentally benign.
The first approach in attaining the necessary step of green logistics is by scaling up the vehicles and the storage process. The objective is to prevent the miniature transport of goods, which improvises the environmental footprints of the logistics network. Another contemporary way, in this context, is to source the product locally, which often fails due to various ecological barriers. On this note, the manufacturers, coupled with the retailers and the third party logistics, are now accessing a clear strategy that enables the companies to share and track information, thus diminishing the process cost and the carbon emission per unit process.
Alliance Shippers Inc, the world-famous logistics company, has deployed the EverGreen refrigeration to make the process more environmentally friendly. The containers have a power sensor and a GPS, which allows the trailers to switch the unit from ‘on’ to ‘off’ at any time. The company is currently scaling up the use of solar power driven battery to run the logistics system. As the reported data reveal, the company was able to cut down the carbon emission per unit operation by 67%, even when it transports well via the nation’s railroad systems.
A major thrust of the emerging technology is seen in the field of transporting fresh food. Nature’s Frequencies’ Food Freshness Card is transiting to these energy-efficient cards not only to provide a better shelf life to the products but also to save the flow of unnecessary energy out flux by 30%.
The companies need to comprehend how the contemporary food supply chain shall be a dependent function of climate change and global carbon footprints. Tuning the food supply chain to be ‘green’ not only makes the process eco-friendly but also reduces various operational costs and elevates the flexibility of the supply chain and hence the profit.
